Matsuura Aya 20th Single Announced

Slightly belated news, but Matsuura Aya performed at the opening ceremony of the "Fourth Special Olympics Japan Winter National Games" at Yamagata on Friday, last week. The news slipped under the radar because she was a "secret guest" and her appearance was kept under wraps, however the official Hello! Project website confirmed that she performed what will be her 20th solo single, "Kizuna" (Bonds).

The song is the official support song of the three-day competition that ran from Friday until Sunday, but the single is not due out until May 21st. The event was a national build-up to the next Special Olympics World Winter Games which will be held in Idaho from January 31st next year. With such natural exhuberance in front of crowds, there are few people better prepared than Matsuura Aya to represent the Special Olympics. (Note: The Special Olympics are not the same as the Paralympics.)

Sponichi report that the song was commissioned for the games by the honorary president of the tournament, Hosokawa Kayoko, wife of the 73rd Japanese Prime Minister Hosokawa Morihiro. The lyricist, Yukawa Reiko, has previously worked with Aya at EXPO 2005 in Aichi for the closing theme "Friends Love Believing". Aya is quoted as saying that she was was pleased that the audience nodded along in appreciation of the song and would like the participants at next year's games to sing it when possible!

Nikkan Sports reported her saying that the crowd was so enthusiastic about her appearance that it felt as though they were supporting her contrary to the purpose of her appearance.
